The Teatro de la Zarzuela presents from 9 to 27 April a new stage proposal that combines El Bateo, by Federico Chueca, with libretto by Antonio Paso and Antonio Domínguez, and La Revoltosa, by Ruperto Chapí, with texts by José López Silva and Carlos Fernández Shaw.
This double function is an interesting contrast with the one in charge of the production, the musical director Óliver Díaz and the stage director Juan Echanove, which allow the viewer to reflect on the perception of the short lyric genre since the 21st century.
The interest aroused by this combination of talents, which is even greater if one takes into account that both works (which next November will be 124 and 128 years old respectively) have not been on the stage of Teresa Berganza’s square for almost two decades, has made very few entries available for the 15 programmed functions.
The contrast between both works is magical. It is a more than stimulating journey from the great festive dynamism filled with vibrant choral scenes of El bateo, to the Madrid costumbrismo that is intertwined with a passionate portrait full of tensions and memorable comic scenes of La revoltosa.
The maestro Óliver Díaz will be at the head of the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid (Theater Holder), a prominent cast, and the always relevant Titular Chorus of the Teatro de la Zarzuela directed by the maestro Antonio Fauró. The cast is a collection of great voices, actors and actresses of Spanish lyric.
