PP and Vox join forces in Brussels to demand a European response to the Ceuta crisis

Aquí Europa/The Diplomat Members of the European Parliament from the People's Party (PP) and the Patriots for Europe group, of which Vox is a member, participated this Wednesday in a demonstration in front of the European Parliament to mark Ceuta Day. They expressed their support for the autonomous city, criticized the government of Pedro Sánchez, and called for his resignation. Around 200 MEPs and staff members of the European Parliament participated in the demonstration, which began at 12:00 noon in front of the European Parliament building in Brussels. During the event, representatives from both parties demanded a response from European institutions and questioned the actions of the Spanish government. The head of the Vox delegation in the European Parliament, Jorge Buxadé, stated that the events of May 2021 “were not an immigration attempt or an act of immigration invasion, but rather an act of invasion in the strictest sense of the territory,” and described it as “an act of hybrid warfare promoted, orchestrated, and encouraged by Morocco.” Buxadé also announced that the Vox delegation had sent a letter this Wednesday to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas; and European Commissioner Magnus Brunner, demanding a European response to Morocco. For her part, the Secretary General of the EPP, Dolors Montserrat, accused the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, of having “lied” to the citizens of Ceuta, both Spanish and European, and called for elections. Montserrat asserted that Sánchez was aware of police alerts regarding the events in Ceuta and stated that the report from the National Intelligence Center against the Financing of Terrorism (CENIF), which she referenced, confirmed the existence of an “extreme risk” and the involvement of Moroccan agents in planning the operation. The mobilization in Brussels coincided with the demonstrations called in Spain by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) in support of Ceuta. The events are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in front of town halls throughout the country. In Madrid, the leaders of the People's Party (PP) and Vox, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Santiago Abascal, will also participate.
