PP responds to Morocco, accusing it of being “responsible, by action or omission,” for the Ceuta migrant influx

The Diplomat The People's Party (PP) on Friday accused Morocco of being "responsible, by action or omission," for the mass entry of migrants into Ceuta between July 30 and 31. This accusation came in response to a statement issued the previous day by the Moroccan government, in which it defended itself against accusations of involvement in the migration crisis and harshly criticized "Spanish political and media circles" that persist in "using the Kingdom for their own internal agenda." In a statement, the PP insists that "Morocco is responsible for what happened, by action or omission," and warns that the official reports declassified on Wednesday demonstrate the need for "a rigorous and urgent evaluation" of the events and for "loyal and transparent action by all parties, along with verifiable guarantees that similar events will not occur again." Likewise, the party led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo warns that it will continue to defend “firmly and above all else” the general interests of the Spanish nation, the integrity of its borders, and the security of Spaniards because “nothing is above the defense of Spain.” The People's Party (PP) also insists that the “invasion” of July 30 was a “serious violation of the territorial integrity of Spain and, by extension, of Europe” through a “hybrid attack involving the manipulation of irregular immigration.” The People's Party also demands that Morocco show “utmost respect” for Spanish institutions and the “currently ongoing judicial investigation,” since it is the responsibility of the Spanish justice system, “in the exercise of its independence and our national sovereignty, to determine the facts, assess the evidence, and, where appropriate, establish the corresponding responsibilities.” In its statement on Thursday, the Moroccan government warned that “no data, fact, or report” demonstrates the involvement of its authorities in the Ceuta migration influx and denounced “certain Spanish political and media circles” that persist “in instrumentalizing the Kingdom for a domestic agenda.” It also asked “why illegal migrants are not being rejected, even though the Moroccan government has officially committed to readmitting them” and “why unaccompanied minors are being kept away from their families, while Morocco has urged their return.” The PP's statement agrees with Morocco on these two “highly pertinent” questions and warns that the Spanish government “is obligated to provide an explanation for why this crisis cannot be resolved if it has the means to do so.” Mónica García also accuses Morocco Furthermore, the Minister of Health, Mónica García, warned this Friday, in statements to Onda Cero radio, that, “beyond the need to investigate the extent of direct or indirect involvement,” the “responsibility” for controlling the border, on the Moroccan side, lies with Rabat, because, “clearly, whoever holds the key to the door has left it open.” She also warned that what happened in Ceuta was due to a “lack of foresight on everyone’s part,” including Spain, and to a “failure” in the outsourcing of border protection services “granted by Europe” to Morocco on “the only land border with Africa.”
