The Irish Embassy hosts Albares and EU ambassadors to discuss the Irish Presidency

The Diplomat Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares attended a working breakfast on Monday organized by the Irish Embassy in Madrid with the European Union ambassadors accredited to Spain to discuss the priorities of the recently begun Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, which will focus on competitiveness, the Union's shared values, and security "in an increasingly complex global environment." "The Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU has Spain's support," Albares posted on social media. "The EU ambassadors in Madrid know this," he continued. "At this crucial moment, Europe must move forward in the economy, in trade, in security, and in values. The identity that defines us is at stake," he concluded. “This morning, the Embassy organised a working breakfast chaired by Ambassador Glynn, which was attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the EU and Cooperation, H.E. José Manuel Albares, the Secretary of State for the EU, H.E. Fernando Sampedro, and the EU Ambassadors to Spain,” the Irish representation reported on its Instagram account. The purpose of the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office in Spain, in Madrid, “was to discuss the priorities of the newly-launched Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU,” it added. “This event marks the start of our Presidency, which will run from July to December 2026,” the Embassy continued. “Over the coming months, Ireland will focus on strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, upholding the Union’s shared values and reinforcing its security in an increasingly complex global environment,” it announced. “Working closely with Member States and EU institutions, we aim to advance sustainable economic growth, support democracy and the rule of law, and promote a safer, more resilient and united EU for all its citizens,” it concluded.
