Armengol defends “European unity” in Ukraine in favor of peace and international law

The Diplomat The Speaker of the Congress, Francina Armengol, and several members of the Chamber's governing board made an official trip to Ukraine, which included an address to the plenary session of Parliament in which she defended Europe's “unity, determination, and commitment” to peace, international law, and human rights, as well as meetings with Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The delegation that traveled to Ukraine, at the invitation of the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, consisted of Armengol, Third Vice-President Esther Gil de Reboleño, Fourth Vice-President Marta González, and the Second through Fourth Secretaries Isaura Leal, Guillermo Mariscal, and Carmen Navarro. The visit to the Ukrainian Parliament began with a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the deputies and Rada staff who died in the war, followed by a meeting with Ruslan Stefanchuk, before she delivered a speech in the Rada's Plenary Hall. In her address, Armengol reiterated her “deep admiration for the Ukrainian people and their armed forces.” “Their struggle for freedom, sovereignty, and independence is exemplary, and the resilience they have demonstrated over these years only strengthens our conviction, and that of the rest of Europe, that we must stand as an unyielding pillar.” “Peace is also a task that must be undertaken every day. The pursuit of peace must permeate all our actions,” she warned. With this objective, she added, “Europe today must respond with greater unity, greater determination, and a stronger commitment to our values, to peace, to international law, and to human rights.” The president and the members of the Bureau then met with Yulia Sviridenko and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
