The Cervantes Institute will hold its Annual Directors’ Meeting in Jerez at the end of July

The Diplomat The city of Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) will host the Cervantes Institute's Annual Directors' Meeting for the first time at the end of July. The meeting will bring together nearly one hundred directors of the institution and is usually attended by Queen Letizia. The director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, signed the collaboration agreement this Wednesday in the Antechamber of the Old Town Hall of Jerez with the Jerez de la Frontera City Council, the Caballero Bonald Foundation, and the Andrés de Ribera Foundation for the organization and celebration of this meeting, which will also have a presence in Cádiz and Rota through various activities. "This meeting is very important for us," García Montero stated. “The Cervantes Institute has a network of more than one hundred centers around the world, and once a year we meet to jointly consider the strategy to follow and the possibilities for developing Spanish-language culture globally,” added the director of the Cervantes Institute, who announced that there will be special sessions commemorating the centenary of the birth of the poet José Manuel Caballero Bonald. In addition to the director of the Cervantes Institute, the signing ceremony was attended by the mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, who highlighted this “magnificent opportunity to promote the legacy of the genius” Caballero Bonald; and the president of the Caballero Bonald Foundation, Julia Caballero Ramis. Since 2005 (except in 2020 due to the pandemic), the Cervantes Institute has held annual meetings with the directors of its centers abroad and their entire management teams to discuss their strategies for the international promotion of the Spanish language and culture. This will be the first time it has been held in Jerez and the fourth time in Andalusia. To date, twelve autonomous communities have hosted these sessions: Andalusia, Catalonia, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Madrid, Cantabria, Extremadura, La Rioja, Galicia, the Basque Country, the Valencian Community, the Principality of Asturias, Catalonia, and the Canary Islands. Specifically, the previous Annual Meetings of Directors of the Institute took place in A Coruña (2005); León (2006); Córdoba (2007); Soria (2008); Comillas, Cantabria (2009); Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real (2010); Alcalá de Henares, Madrid (2011); Salamanca (2012); Cáceres and Mérida (2013); Logroño and San Millán de la Cogolla, La Rioja (2014); and Santiago de Compostela (2015). Madrid (2016); Málaga (2017); Orihuela and Alicante (2018); El Escorial, Madrid (2019); San Sebastián (2021); Granada (2022); Oviedo (2023); Barcelona (2024); and La Laguna, Canary Islands (2025).
