Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing acknowledges the need for more balanced trade with Spain

At a working breakfast held on May 7 at the Club Financiero Génova in Madrid, the ambassador provided an overview of the recent evolution of relations between China and Spain and highlighted the importance of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's recent visit to Beijing and the commitment of both sides to strengthen the institutional framework of bilateral relations. In this regard, as reported by the Council Foundation in a press release, the ambassador highlighted the creation and consolidation of stable mechanisms for political dialogue, economic cooperation, and collaboration in areas such as science, education, and culture, with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding and ensuring a more sustainable and resilient relationship over time. On the economic front, he addressed both trade and investment and acknowledged the shared interest of both countries in moving towards a more balanced exchange and expanding the presence of Spanish products in the Chinese market. He also emphasized Spain's growing attractiveness as a destination for Chinese investment, especially in the industrial and energy sectors, and stressed the importance of keeping cooperation channels open in a complex international context. Finally, he placed the bilateral relationship within the broader framework of ties between China and the European Union and emphasized the need to further deepen dialogue to facilitate an environment conducive to business collaboration and the stability of supply chains. Representatives from companies in various sectors, universities, and public administrations participated on behalf of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, which allowed for a multifaceted debate on the opportunities and challenges presented by these relationships, according to the press release.
