The Spanish Government condemned on Wednesday, January 21, the latest attack against the facilities of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), “perpetrated this morning in East Jerusalem by Israeli security forces, unacceptably violating the privileges and immunities of the United Nations agency.”

“The Spanish Government categorically rejects this violation, in which bulldozers are demolishing buildings of the United Nations Agency protected by the immunities of international law, under the supervision of Israeli authorities,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release.

Spain reiterated its demand that the Israeli Government “respect international law and obligations, including the advisory opinions of the International Court of Justice, which form part of the order established by all members of the United Nations.”

“In light of these serious events, the Government reiterates its support for UNRWA and its essential mandate to address the needs of the Palestinian refugee population until a just and lasting peace is achieved in the region,” the statement concluded.
