Presentation of ‘International political ethics: globalizing solidarity’

Author: Gabriel Alonso-Carro y García-Crespo.

On 15 October, at the headquarters of the Escuela Diplomática, the book Ética política internacional: globalizar la solidaridad, by Gabriel Alonso-Carro and García-Crespo (pictured), for many years head of studies at the Spanish Diplomatic School based in Madrid, was presented. Excellent and essential book to understand this troubled world.

From the authority that comes also from being a doctor by the UCM and Diplomado/Magíster in International Studies by this same School, Gabriel Alonso-Carro analyzes in depth aspects of international politics around solidarity.

It is a work suitable for experts (in high-level diplomacy and international relations), but it is also a pleasant and informative book, suitable and understandable for those who are concerned with the future of humanity and the peaceful coexistence of the world.

With an in-depth knowledge of international relations, world political history and philosophy, she deepens the data and references to established authors of all times in the different theses that this essay supports and that are based on the chosen title.

The presentation of the book -introduced by the ambassador-director Cecilia Robles- had two presenters: Ignacio Ulloa Rubio, lawyer of the Constitutional Court and former judge of the General Court of the EU, and Luis Pablo Tarín Martín, diplomat with considerable experience.

Throughout the round table, some of the assumptions that appear in the book were unravelled: as the tension between “instrumental reason” and “ethical reason” with regard to the respect for norms and law, as well as the current dichotomy between globalization processes  (led by technology) and those of de-globalization (isolationist economic policies) or a transversal global ethic as a model of international coexistence.
