The Memory of Movement at the Sefarad-Israel Center

What does a body remember when words disappear? From Tel Aviv comes to the Sefarad-Israel Center a theatrical and experimental performance that connects historical dance, contemporary creation, and technology to explore memory as a shared territory. Neve Schechter, a leading figure in Israeli interdisciplinary creation, and the Spanish company ESQUIVEL (Dance & Music) join forces in a unique encounter where tradition and future converse through movement.

The performance, organized by the Sefarad-Israel Center, the Embassy of Israel in Spain, and El Al Israel Airlines, will take place this coming Thursday, June 25, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sefarad-Israel Center, Madrid (Calle Mayor, 69), and on Sunday, June 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Hospital of Santa María la Rica (Calle Santa María la Rica, 3, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid). In both cases, admission is free until capacity is reached.

Through various “research capsules,” artists such as Or Saadi and Shahar Hanin, under the artistic direction of Isaac Chocron and Romina Reisin, present a journey that explores collective rituals, the connections between music and the body, and new relationships between humanity and technology. The program also includes the participation of María José Ruiz Mayordomo and young performers from the ESQUIVEL company, who reclaim gestures and codes from historical Spanish dance and place them in dialogue with contemporary creation.

An open-air performance laboratory that invites us to consider the body as a living archive and a space for intercultural encounter. An immersive artistic experience that transforms dance into a bridge between generations, cultures, and shared memories.
