Because there is no escape: for now, death remains the end of life for every human being. The only thing that changes is when and how it happens. Most of the time, it comes too soon and leaves a lot of suffering behind. Could this drama be alleviated if we accepted the idea that death is not the end of all existence?
Wilhelm Schmid deals seriously with this question, which has troubled mankind since time immemorial: Where does the one who leaves go? To another life? Is there really an afterlife? How can you imagine? Could the mere fact that such a possibility exists be a consolation?
The author of the book was born in 1953 and lives in Berlin. With extensive activity as a lecturer in Germany and abroad, he taught philosophy for many years as a visiting professor at the University of Erfurt. He was also a visiting professor in Latvia and Georgia, as well as a philosophical counsellor at a hospital in Switzerland. In 2012 he received the German Meckatzer-Philosophie-Preis for his special merits in teaching and disseminating philosophy and, in 2013, the Swiss Egnér-Preis for his work on the art of living.
