The Diplomat
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia commemorated the 80th anniversary of Indonesian independence with a solemn flag-raising ceremony at its headquarters last Sunday morning.
The event, chaired by the Ambassador of Indonesia, Muhammad Najib, was attended by about 150 people, including members of the Indonesian diaspora and friends of Indonesia in Spain.
The ceremony was led by Major Arm Hendri Nuryanto of the Indonesian Armed Forces, while the flag team was made up of young Indonesian students in Spain, reflecting the pride of new generations to represent their country on this historic day. In his speech, the Indonesian ambassador stressed “the importance of keeping the fighting spirit of national heroes alive to continue driving Indonesia’s progress”.
After the ceremony, attendees participated in a reception that included the traditional cut of tumpeng (conical shaped rice) and 80th anniversary cake. Guests enjoyed Indonesian culinary specialties and welcomed the new diplomatic staff of the Embassy.
The celebration was also enriched with a colorful cultural representation inspired by the Pacu Jalur, traditional rowing festival, organized together with the Indonesian community in Spain. The Embassy also provided consular services to the Indonesian citizens present.
The commemorative activities will conclude on Sunday, 24 August with a Jalan Sehat (traditional walk) and games, which will end the program of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
