Last Monday, a concert in solidarity with Ukraine was held at the Instituto Francés of Madrid, organized by the British Embassy.

The charity event and featured live performances by a diplomatic choir (including the British ambassador, Alexander Ellis, and representatives from other embassies), the Ukrainian children’s choir Peredzvin and the prestigious Talia Group. Funds raised will be used for a demining project in Ukraine.

The concert was attended by the UK’s Secretary of State for Scotland, Kirsty McNeill, who in an opening address stated: “Tonight we unite through the universal language of music to show our collective solidarity”.

Ukrainian Ambassador Serhii Pohoreltsev said that “I sincerely thank the British Embassy for organizing this solidarity concert for the third year in a row and for keeping this charity initiative alive, which saves lives each year. Ukraine is one of the most mined countries in the world. Every square metre of land cleared means a life saved, a family that can return home, a field that is being recultivated. ¡ Thank you for every contribution, for the solidarity and support to Ukraine!”.

Finally, the French ambassador, Kareen Rispal, appealed for unity among European partners and welcomed the concert as a symbol of this union.
