Oman’s ambassador bids farewell to Spain with “a touch of melancholy”

The Diplomat With “gratitude, satisfaction and a touch of melancholy” said goodbye to Spain yesterday to the Ambassador of Oman, Omar al Kathiri, during the reception offered by his Embassy on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the National Day of this Arab country. The next destination of the Omani diplomat will be the head of the Mission of his country to the United Nations, in New York. “I have reached the end of my mission in this wonderful country that I consider my second home,” said Al Kathiri before expressing his ‘deep gratitude to the Government and the people of Spain’ and assuring that ”from the first day I have felt in this land a special connection, a bond forged not only by our shared cultural roots, but also by the welcoming and generous spirit that characterizes the Spanish people.” The former Omani ambassador also had a special thought for those affected by the DANA, to whom he assured that “my thoughts are with the affected families, to whom from here I wish to send a fraternal embrace”. Regarding relations with Spain, Al Kathiri echoed the speech previously delivered by Minister Nayif Al Shams, who will hold the Head of Mission until the arrival of the next ambassador, by stressing that “we have further strengthened the ties between our countries in the economic, cultural, tourism and political fields, among others; and we have promoted an open and constructive dialogue, based on mutual respect and common interests, promoting joint initiatives that reflect the richness of our collaboration”. A technical cooperation that the Chargé d'Affaires, Nayif al Shams, focused during his speech “on water management, agriculture, food and fisheries” before stressing that “the Spanish Government's Vision 2030 is very much in line with the Oman Vision 2040, an ambitious roadmap to achieve sustainable development in Oman and promote economic and social progress”. Finally, the outgoing ambassador had words of thanks for the community of foreign diplomats in Spain as well as for the members of his Embassy - “an incredible team”-, the Spanish Royal House and Their Majesties the King and Queen, the Cabinet of the President of the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spanish Armed Forces, the autonomous communities, companies and the media.
