Instituto Cervantes is finishing details for the opening of an extension in Mauritania

The Diplomat The secretary general of the Instituto Cervantes, Carmen Noguero, visited Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, last week to prepare the future opening of an extension of the institution in this city, as agreed during the recent trip of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to the African country. Noguero, accompanied by the director of the Rabat center (to which the extension is attached), Anastasio Sánchez, held meetings with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the presidents of the universities of Nouakchott Al Aasriya and Sup Management, among others. In addition, the Institute visited several buildings for future locations of the new headquarters, including two libraries of the University of Nouakchott and the building of the Faculty of Languages and Social Sciences of the university. “The visit has highlighted the enormous interest of Mauritanian academic institutions in promoting the teaching of Spanish, which is in growing demand in the country, and the need to work on the training of teachers who will enable this process,” the Institute stated in a press release. The future opening of an extension in Nouakchott is included in the joint declaration adopted by Pedro Sánchez and the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Uld Ghazuani, during the visit made by the head of the Executive to this country on August 27.
