Japan’s Training Fleet begins four-day stopover in Valencia today

The Diplomat The Japan Training Squadron and Overseas Training Cruise (JTS), made up of the training ship 'Kashima' and the escort ship 'Shimakaze', will stopover from today until the 22nd in the port of Valencia, according to the Japanese Embassy in Madrid. It will be the first time in history that a Japanese Training Fleet visits the city of Valencia, where it is scheduled to arrive at nine o'clock this Monday morning. The fleet left Japan in May with some 190 young cadets from the Maritime Self-Defense Force, who will graduate as officers at the Naval Academy next spring, after having visited eight countries during a three-month voyage until their return to Japan at the beginning of November. Several training activities for the cadets are scheduled to take place in the port of Valencia, as well as a cocktail party on board the training ship “Kashima” to which authorities and representatives of Valencian civil society are invited. In addition, during the stay in Valencia, a musical concert will take place by the Fleet's military band on Tuesday, August 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Reina, with the performance of various works such as Marcha de La Bien Amada, Viva España, Super Mario, Pokémon, Totoro, Dragon Ball, etc. There will also be a demonstration of Japanese drums, Wa-Daiko. According to the Japanese Embassy in a note, the Japanese Training Fleet Band is made up of members of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, which, with the motto "There are no borders, music is the universal language!", aims to promote friendly relations between countries through musical performances. The musical repertoire is adapted to the tastes and idiosyncrasies of each city where it stops, so it is expected that a wonderful exchange with Valencia will take place through music, the note concludes.
