The French diaspora in Spain leaves out Le Pen and is torn between Macron and the left

Spain is integrated, together with Portugal, Andorra and Monaco, into the Fifth Electoral District. In total, this constituency has 115,502 citizens with the right to vote, of which 87,713 reside in Spain (46,240 dependent on the Consulate in Madrid, 36,887 in Barcelona and 4,586 in Bilbao). In France as a whole, the results of the first round on June 30 gave victory to the far-right National Rally (RN), led by Marine Le Pen and headed by Jordan Bardella, who, with 33.5 percent of votes, has won in 297 constituencies and has gone to the second round in 485 of the 577 (one per seat) that the National Assembly has. In second position was the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP), which has won 157 constituencies and has gone to the second round in 446 (28 percent of the votes). The centrist party Together for the Republic, linked to President Emmanuel Macron, has won in 69 constituencies and will compete in the second round in 319 constituencies (20.7 percent). The French electoral system provides for the holding of second rounds in all cases in which the candidates have not obtained, in the first round, more than 50 percent of the votes and at least 25 percent of the total number of registered voters. . In the case of the diaspora, the results are usually very different from those of the country as a whole. For example, in the presidential elections of April 2022, while Emmanuel Macron won the first round in France as a whole with 27.35 percent of the votes, followed by the far-right candidate, Marine Le Pen (of the National Front), 23.97 percent, in the case of French residents in Spain, the official results awarded victory to Macron with a resounding 40 percent and second place to the leftist Jean-Luc Mélenchon (from France Insoumise), with 20 percent. percent. Le Pen came in seventh place, with only 3.54 percent. In the first round of the current legislative elections, held on June 30, the victory in the Fifth Circumscription corresponded to the current deputy, the 'Macronist' Stéphane Vojetta, who obtained 33.7 percent of the votes, with a total of 14,492 (5,969 in Madrid, 4,146 in Barcelona and 403 in Bilbao). In second position was Maxime Da Silva, from France Inspumise (integrated in the leftist coalition New Popular Front), who obtained 26.2% of the votes (11,267, of which 4,595 in Madrid, 4,198 in Barcelona and 481 in Bilbao). Unlike the rest of France, the 'lepenist' candidate, Johana Maurel, has been left out of the second round, with 8,385 votes (3,118 in Madrid, 1,1619 in Barcelona and 149 in Bilbao). Participation in this Fifth District did not reach 38 percent, clearly below the 67.5 percent for the country as a whole.
