The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, received yesterday at the Moncloa Complex representatives of the Palestinian community in Spain whose relatives are in the Gaza Strip, before whom he defended an “immediate and permanent ceasefire that puts an end to the humanitarian catastrophe and that allows the entry of humanitarian aid.”
“Today I met with representatives of the Palestinian community whose relatives directly suffer the humanitarian consequences of the conflict in Gaza,” declared the head of the Executive through his official account on the social network X. The meeting was attended by the Palestinian ambassador in Spain, Husni Abdel Wahed.
“We demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire that puts an end to the humanitarian catastrophe and allows the entry of humanitarian aid,” he continued. “The civilian population cannot pay for Hamas’ crimes,” he warned. “The two-state solution, Israel and Palestine, coexisting in peace and security is the only way to resolve the conflict definitively,” concluded Pedro Sánchez.
During the meeting, Sánchez explained the Spanish proposal to call an international peace conference to materialize this two-state solution and highlighted that the Government has increased funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), with a extra allocation of 3.5 million euros to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
On February 6, Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI received in Madrid a delegation of relatives of those kidnapped by Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023. During the meeting in Moncloa, the president of Government learned “first-hand the painful testimonies of the families” and conveyed the position that the Government of Spain has maintained from the beginning: “strong condemnation of the atrocious terrorist attacks committed by Hamas on October 7 and request for the immediate release and unconditional of all the hostages.”
