Operation Crossing the Strait of Gibraltar (OPE), the gigantic migratory movement that takes place every summer, has recorded an increase of almost 11% in the number of passengers this year.

According to government data, from 15 June (when the operation began) to 15 August, a total of 1,585,693 passengers have crossed the Strait of Gibraltar, 10.8% more than in 2022.

As for vehicles, the total has been 390,736 (11.7% more), which shows a continuous and growing flow of people through the Strait. Of all this traffic, up to 60% corresponds to the port of Algeciras.

In addition, until 15 August, and since two months before, a total of 519,653 passengers have already been registered returning to the European continent, which represents a growth of 2% compared to the same dates in 2022.
