The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has launched the call for the MAEC-AECID Scholarship programs for the 2023-2024 academic year, for which citizens from Latin American, African and Asian countries will be eligible and for which a total amount of almost 4.7 million euros will be allocated.
The MAEC-AECID scholarship and assistantship programs, in their seventy-sixth edition, “have established themselves as one of the most valuable instruments of Spanish foreign policy,” according to the Resolution of the Presidency of the AECID approving the call, signed on December 28 by the director of the Agency, Antón Leis.
The purpose of this call for applications is to grant aid for the training of citizens from Spanish Cooperation partner countries, countries receiving Official Development Aid or countries of interest for Spain’s international relations. The budget allocation for this call for proposals amounts to 4,682,061 euros to be distributed between the years 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 and it is expected to award some 250 new scholarships.
The call for applications, published this Tuesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE), includes five programs, among which are the postgraduate scholarships (MASTER) for a master’s degree in Spain for the training of public employees from Latin America and the Philippines; and the Africa-MED scholarships for training and research stays in Spain for citizens from African and Middle Eastern countries. These two programs, included in the bilateral strategies of the current Master Plan for Spanish Cooperation, are by far the best endowed in terms of budget, with more than two million euros in the first case and more than 1.6 million euros in the case of Africa-MED.
Likewise, the call for applications includes scholarships for the Diplomatic School program, aimed at citizens from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and the Philippines for the Inter-University Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations; the MÚSICA program for Latin American citizens at the Queen Sofia School of Music; and the ASALE program, for citizens from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and the Philippines to study at the Queen Sofia School of Music; and the ASALE program, for a master’s degree in Hispanic lexicography and collaborative training stays at the headquarters of the Spanish Language Academies associated with the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), for citizens of Latin America, the United States, Equatorial Guinea and the Philippines. All programs include a monthly stipend for the duration of the scholarship and accident insurance. The scholarship application must be made for a single program.
