This afternoon at 5 p.m., Casa América presents the catalogue of the 15th edition of the Cuenca Biennial (Ecuador), Biennial of the Biocene. Changing green for blue.
The Fundación Municipal Bienal de Cuenca, an Ecuadorian platform with international projection, has promoted the creation, exhibition and discussion of contemporary art for more than three decades. It has activated the community thanks to the reflection that is permanently promoted from there. And as part of the International Biennial Association (IBA), it has also maintained a long relationship of agreements with biennials around the world and their governments, through their embassies.
Between December 2021 and February 2022, the institution celebrated its 15th edition with a sustainable Biennial project framed under the curatorial thesis of the Spaniard Blanca de la Torre, entitled Biennial of the Biocene. Changing green for blue.
This Biennial focused more specifically on the problems of the imbalance generated by climate change and the socio-ecological theme. It was attended by 34 artists, 33 projects, 3,200 participants and, even with pandemic restrictions and world depression, in May 2022 it closed the cycle with the holding of the Theoretical Seminar and the launch of the Catalogue/Memorial, a conceptual compilation and visual record of the processes of this edition; thus, with a large Spanish representation – including its curator – the need to relaunch its memoirs in Spain to continue expanding the field of action.
The presentation will include a large Spanish representation from the art world and the presence of the curator Blanca de la Torre, with the aim of re-launching this memory in Spain and continuing to expand the dissemination action that we have been entrusted with.
Enrique Ojeda, general director of Casa de América, will welcome the audience, and the curator will be joined by Andrés Vallejo, ambassador of Ecuador in Spain; Katya Cazar, director of the Fundación Municipal Bienal de Cuenca, and Carlota Álvarez Basso, curator, art manager and member of the jury in previous editions of the Cuenca Biennial. Limited capacity. Admission by invitation only. Applications should be addressed to the Embassy of Ecuador in Spain: cultura@embajadaecuador.es.
