The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, received yesterday the final report of the Truth Commission that since 2019 has worked in Colombia for the clarification of the truth, the recognition of the victims and in favor of coexistence after decades of armed conflict.

A delegation from the Truth Commission, including physician and doctor of psychology Carlos Martín Beristain, the only foreign member of the team, handed the document to the minister, who recalled that “Spain has always supported the centrality of the victims in the peace-building process in Colombia and this report gives them the prominence they deserve.”

The Truth Commission Final Report has already been presented in Colombia and these days it will be disseminated in Spain through public events in several Spanish cities and meetings with the Colombian community in Madrid, Bilbao and Barcelona. More than 28,000 personal testimonies and 1,195 reports on the violence in the country have been reviewed for the elaboration of the report.  From now on, there is a two-month period to disseminate and socialize the conclusions of the report, after which the mandate of the Truth Commission will be over and a new stage will be opened, focused on the dissemination of the legacy and the custody of the memory. To this end, the report proposes the creation of a Colombian Museum of Memory and a Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation.
