As usual at this time of the year, the Polish Embassy welcomed the Christmas spirit with a reception for guests, who enjoyed Polish joy, friendliness and gastronomy.

This year the hostess was not the much-missed Ambassador Marzenna Adamczyk, but the current head of the Legation and Chargé d’Affaires, Karina Wegrzynowska, who with a special grace and splendid sympathy set the bar high and with her remarks created a delightful atmosphere and laughter among all those present.

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the Polish Embassy,” said Karina Wegrzynowska, “and on such a special occasion as we are celebrating the Christmas holidays together. It is a time to get together with our families and closest friends and loved ones. It is a time to reflect, to sum up, to draw conclusions and to make resolutions for the New Year that we will certainly not keep”.

As I am sure you know,” Karina continued, “Poland is a country with a lot of tradition.  It is typical and traditional to share the Christmas Eve wafer, to leave an empty seat to welcome an unexpected guest or to give a piece of wafer to animals ‘so that they finally speak with a human voice’. But what unites us all, what is a common denominator, is this Christmas spirit, the joy of celebrating Christmas with loved ones”.

The event ended with a performance by the singer Malgorzata Kluz, who at the end was accompanied by all the attendees in the interpretation of Christmas carols.

The event was attended by the ambassadors of Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia and Italy, as well as several members of the Diplomatic Corps and friends of the Polish Embassy.
