The Spanish Government said yesterday that it had received the information on a terrorist attack in Istanbul, close the Blue Mosque, that left ten dead and at least a dozen wounded “with horror and indignation”. In a communique issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government reiterated its “full solidarity” with the Turkish nation as well as the authorities of the country in the fight against “terrorist barbarity” and its intention to continue cooperating “to put an end to this scourge”.

The acting President Mariano Rajoy expressed himself in similar terms in his Twitter account, with his condolences “to the Turkish people and the families of the victims”. For her part, the PSOE International Relations Secretary, Carme Chacón, expressed in the name of her party, “the strongest condemnation and disgust” at such an attack, which she described as “one more example of terrorist barbarity and pointlessness”. Chacón, also stressed the need for maintaining international cooperation in respect of security and intelligence in the face of the “common threat” that is terrorism.
