The directors of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Antón Leis and Jarbas Barbosa, signed this past Monday a memorandum of understanding on health and health emergencies.
The agreement will focus on the areas of obstetric and neonatal emergencies, cervical cancer elimination, health information systems, human resources for health and improving clinical capacities during disasters and pandemics, according to a press release from AECID. As part of the agreement, AECID will donate 1.45 million euros to PAHO this year.
The signing took place at the AECID headquarters in Madrid, where Barbosa stressed that “Spain has been a firm partner of PAHO over the years and we are pleased to intensify this collaboration for the benefit of the peoples of the Americas.”
