On the occasion of the Green Autumn cycle of the Instituto Francés in Madrid, the French Institute invites writer and investigative journalist Thierry Colombié and the director of Another Film Festival, specialising in documentaries, Marta García Larriu (in the photo) to a meeting this evening at 19.30 in its media library to discuss the feedback between ecological activism and art.
Writers, filmmakers, painters, sculptors, musicians, have used their talents to expose environmental problems, from deforestation and air and water pollution to biodiversity loss and climate change. Based on a principle of fairness and humility, artists and authors react and engage through their creative processes and works, limiting their ecological impact. The result is a committed work, which aims to provoke a reaction from the viewer. The artist then transcends the relationship with the sensitive and invites us to develop other links with the world, in a form of exemplarity and neutrality far removed from monetary concerns.
The guests at this meeting, which will be held in French, will discuss the source of inspiration provided by the notions of ecology and sustainable development. How has art become a tool for awakening our consciences? Can it become a vehicle for changing our practices towards a more sustainable model?
