Cordoba will host a Forum of the Alliance of Civilisations against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in October, pointed last week by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, during a visit to the Andalusian city, where he held a meeting with representatives of the Islamic Board’s Halal Institute.
In his speech, Albares pointed out that one of Casa Árabe’s headquarters is in Cordoba.
The Director General of the Halal Institute, Isabel Romero, explained that the forum is expected to take place in the first two weeks of October, and added that, at the beginning of that month, “a European group of Jews and Muslims who are already organised and who are the lobby for dialogue with the EU to resolve all the conflicts that often occur in the exercise of religious freedom in Europe” will arrive in Cordoba and Seville.
The fact that, when making the announcement to journalists, Albares was accompanied by the PSOE candidate for the Mayor of Córdoba, Antonio Hurtado, provoked the PP to file a complaint with the Electoral Board of the Zone (JEZ), which has warned the minister and urged him not to repeat an action that it considers “violates the regulations governing the electoral system”.
PSOE sources indicated that they had appealed the warning before the Electoral Board of the Zone, stressing that Albares did not make any announcement, since the convening of the forum had already been announced beforehand by the United Nations, on which the Alliance of Civilisations depends.
