Author: José Luis Leal
This evening at 7 p.m., at the Fundación Carlos de Amberes (Calle de Claudio Coello, 99), the book Hacia la libertad, by the politician of the Transition, José Luis Leal, will be presented.
His trajectory perfectly summarises the recent evolution of Spain, in its transition from dictatorship to democracy and from international isolation to being a key member of the European Union.
In his childhood, José Luis Leal was a classmate of the King Emeritus. As a result of his political commitment, he joined the Popular Liberation Front, went into exile in Yugoslavia, travelled to Switzerland and studied in Paris, where he experienced the French May. On his return, he became a key figure in Adolfo Suárez’s economic team: appointed Finance Minister, he was one of the promoters of those “Moncloa Pacts” which brought about the economic stability that was decisive in the transition to democracy.
The author of the book, José Luis Leal, economist, former minister, former member of the UCD and university professor; Joaquín Leguina, politician, economist, demographer and writer, and Julián García Vargas, economist and former minister, will speak at the event.
