Navantia is strengthening its commitment to the British market, both in the naval sector and in the emerging business of offshore wind energy, with the creation of its subsidiary Navantia UK.
Yesterday the Council of Ministers authorised the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) to create Navantia UK with the aim of increasing its presence in the United Kingdom, where Navantia has collaboration agreements for defence programmes and is exploring opportunities to participate in the manufacture of foundations and substations for offshore wind energy.
Navantia UK will boost the Spanish public company’s presence in potential offshore wind energy operations that will require a presence in the country and a contribution of local content, according to the company.
In the first quarter of 2022, the United Kingdom is the second country in offshore wind energy both in installed GW and under construction, only behind China, and is therefore a strategic market for Navantia Seanergies, the commercial brand that Navantia has launched to boost its activity in green energy. Navantia Seanergies aspires to become a global supplier of elements for offshore wind farms by capitalising on its experience, its knowledge of the market and its industrial ecosystem.
Since it began working on offshore wind projects in 2014, Navantia has participated in the construction of the “East Anglia One”, “Hywind Scotland”, “Moray East” and “Kincardine” wind farms in the United Kingdom, manufacturing both fixed and floating foundations and substations for clients such as EDPR, Scottish Power and Cobra.
