Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández will make his second visit to Spain since taking office on Monday and Tuesday, as part of a European tour that will also take him to Portugal, France, Italy and the Vatican.
Fernández, who was in Madrid in February last year, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, will visit the Zarzuela Palace on Tuesday for a meeting with His Majesty the King, after which the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, will offer him lunch at the Moncloa Palace.
On this new European tour, Alberto Fernández is trying to find aid to renegotiate Argentina’s foreign debt (some 44 billion dollars) with the IMF and to assume the maturities it has with the Paris Club.
Just a few days ago, a Spanish-Argentine business meeting was held in Madrid. On this occasion, the Argentinean Ministry of Productive Development and CEOE signed an agreement to strengthen business cooperation, with which they plan to promote joint actions in the international sphere, especially aimed at SMEs, and to promote investment and recovery of the productive fabric.
Alberto Fernández will meet on Sunday in Lisbon with the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and on Monday with the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa.
On Monday afternoon he will travel to Madrid and after his meetings with Felipe VI and Pedro Sánchez, he will travel to Paris, where on Wednesday he will meet with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and will meet with businessmen at the Argentine Embassy.
On Thursday, he will be in Rome, where he will be received by Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace, and where he will hold meetings with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, and with the President of the Council of Ministers, Mario Draghi.
