Serbian Ambassador pays tribute to Austrian Ambassador Enno Drofenik before his move to Belgrade

Cristina Marcén The Serbian Ambassador to Spain brought together European ambassadors and members of the Madrid Diplomatic Padel Group this Tuesday to pay tribute to the Austrian Ambassador, Enno Drofenik, who will conclude his diplomatic mission in Madrid in the coming weeks to assume a new post as Austrian Ambassador to Belgrade. After the intense summer storm that hit Madrid yesterday, the skies cleared, giving way to one of those evenings that reflect the more human side of diplomacy. On the terrace of the Genoa Financial Club, Serbian Ambassador Irena Šarac hosted an evening designed to bid farewell to Enno Drofenik before his upcoming move to Belgrade, where he will assume the post of Head of the Austrian Embassy in Serbia. The cocktail reception unfolded in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, reflecting the excellent relationships Enno Drofenik has cultivated during his years in Spain. The hostess meticulously attended to every detail of the reception, which was characterized by Serbian warmth and hospitality, symbolically offering a first welcome to the country that will soon become the Austrian diplomat's new posting. Guests enjoyed a carefully curated selection of Serbian and Spanish culinary specialties, allowing them to savor some of the most representative flavors of both countries. The celebration was also enlivened with Serbian, Spanish, and Austrian music, a combination that helped create a relaxed and festive atmosphere where guests shared conversations, dances, and moments of camaraderie. Enno Drofenik attended accompanied by his wife, Juli Sekiguchi, a much-loved and respected figure in Madrid's diplomatic circles. For the past several years, Sekiguchi has chaired the Board of Directors of AIDE, where she has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at strengthening ties among the diplomatic families accredited in Spain and promoting cultural, social, and charitable activities. European ambassadors and members of the Madrid Diplomatic Padel Group, of which Enno Drofenik is a founder and one of its most esteemed members, attended the reception. They all wished to accompany the Austrian ambassador at this particularly significant moment in his diplomatic career. The evening highlighted, once again, the close relationship among members of the diplomatic community accredited in Spain, where personal ties often transcend changes in posting. With this reception, the Serbian ambassador wished to acknowledge the work carried out by Enno Drofenik during his tenure as head of the Austrian Embassy in Spain and to wish him every success in his new mission in Belgrade, where he will continue working to strengthen bilateral relations between Austria and Serbia. Enno Drofenik was appointed Austrian ambassador to Spain in August 2022. A diplomat since 1997, he has served as ambassador to Thailand (2013-2017) and chief of staff to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during his 25-year career. He also worked for the United Nations in New York from 2003 to 2006. Prior to his appointment to Spain, he served as head of protocol at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
