Spain contributes €72.3 million to UNDP, UN Women, UNFPA, UNRWA, WHO, and twenty other organizations

The Diplomat The Council of Ministers authorized on Tuesday a package of €72,365,000 in multi-year voluntary contributions from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) to 25 international organizations, programs, funds, and other international entities. In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that "multi-year contributions ensure predictability and continuity in the funding of international organizations." "This approach reinforces Spain's role as a reliable partner in the multilateral system, aligned with the goals of the 2030 Agenda and the need for sustained responses to increasingly complex crises," it continued. "Through these contributions, Spanish Cooperation continues to promote cooperation based on international solidarity, effectiveness on the ground, and multilateralism," it added. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation channels these contributions to support the work of international organizations, strengthening collective action in the face of global challenges such as humanitarian emergencies, climate change, hunger, poverty and inequalities,” it concluded. The largest contributions go to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), that "play a key role in responding to global crises and promoting development," with €8,130,000, and to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), with €8,110,000. Following these are the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with €6,740,000; and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), with €6,000,000. and the World Health Organization (WHO), with €5,900,000. The rest of the list continues with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with €4,050,000; the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), both with €4 million each; the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), with €3,900,000; and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with €3,645,000. In addition, the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) will receive €2,895,000; the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), and the Organization of American States (OAS) will each receive €2 million; and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will receive €1,930,000. The International Labour Organization (ILO), €1,700,000; the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), €1,485,000; and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), €1 million. The list is completed with 950,000 euros to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), 650,000 euros to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), 600,000 euros to the Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS), 350,000 euros to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), 200,000 euros to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), 100,000 euros to the Latin American Centre for Development Administration (CLAD) and 30,000 euros to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
