Ana Paola Hall took office on July 1st as Honduras’s ambassador plenipotentiary to Spain. She replaces Marlon Brevé, who began his mission in Spain in December 2022, under the presidency of Xiomara Castro.
Hall is the first Honduran ambassador to Spain since Nasry Asfura assumed the presidency, who received the express support of US President Donald Trump during his election campaign.
According to the Honduran press, Ana Paola Hall assumes her post with the aim of continuing and strengthening bilateral relations. Among the strategic priorities of her administration are key areas for social and economic development, such as education, health, security, infrastructure, tourism, and the environment.
In addition, a central component of her diplomatic mission will be providing comprehensive support to the Honduran migrant community. During her swearing-in ceremony before the Honduran Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mireya Agüero, Ambassador Hall expressed her firm commitment to actively working for her compatriots abroad, ensuring that every citizen receives the necessary institutional support and assistance on migration issues through the network of consulates in Spain.
Spain is home to the second largest Honduran community in the world, with 250,000 people, second only to the United States (1.5 million). For this same reason, Spain is also the source of the second largest remittance package from Honduran emigrants, totaling one billion dollars (ten percent of the global total).
Separately, Hall assumes the position amidst Honduras’s campaign to host the 31st Ibero-American Summit, to be held in 2028. Last May, her predecessor, Marlon Brevé, used his participation in the “Diplomatic Breakfasts” series, organized by The Diplomat in Spain, to request Spain’s support for the Honduran bid. Spain will host the 30th Ibero-American Summit in November, and President Asfura has already confirmed his attendance.
Ana Paola Hall is a lawyer with a doctorate in criminal law, as well as a diplomat and former electoral official. She represents the Liberal Party of Honduras and, until her appointment in Spain, served as a member of the National Electoral Council (CNE), an organization she chaired from September 2025 after leading the organization of the general elections. During her tenure, she gained prominence for defending the autonomy of the electoral body and denouncing alleged pressure and attempts at political interference. Hall has requested a temporary leave of absence as a member of the CNE, which will conclude in March 2029, to take up her post as ambassador to Spain.
