AECID offers €686,400 in scholarships for training civil servants from Africa and the Middle East

The Diplomat The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has launched a scholarship program to contribute to the training and development of public officials in Africa and the Middle East, for a total amount of 686,400 euros. The program aims to offer the opportunity to pursue master's degrees in Spain to permanent civil servants or public employees, including those in the education and university systems, from Angola, Algeria, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Chad, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe. To this end, a maximum of 30 scholarships of 11 months each are offered for in-person, officially recognized university master's programs in Spain, with a maximum of 60 credits. The total amount is €686,400.00, and the grants consist of a monthly stipend of €2,000 and health insurance coverage in Spain for the duration of the scholarship. The MAEC-AECID scholarship and lectureship programs, now in their seventy-ninth edition, have become established as "one of the most valued instruments of Spanish foreign policy," according to the resolution. This call for applications is part of the initiatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the AECID, as fundamental tools for development. The scholarships included in this call for applications reflect the approach to development cooperation as “a state policy that promotes knowledge transfer, capacity building, and the creation of opportunities within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda,” the text continues. Furthermore, this program falls under the Law on Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Global Solidarity, of February 20, 2023.
