Spain and Tunisia discuss cultural cooperation in music, heritage, and film

The Diplomat Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs Amina Srarfi met this past Tuesday with the Spanish Ambassador to Tunisia, Isidro González Afonso, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the heritage, music, and film sectors. According to the Tunisian Ministry of Culture's website, the ambassador and the minister discussed the exchange of experiences in the field of music, both in terms of instrumental training and the programming of joint performances during the upcoming cultural season or during the October Music Event, in coordination with the Tunisian Opera Foundation. In addition to serving as Minister of Culture since August 2024, Amina Srarfi is the first woman to conduct a symphony orchestra in Tunisia. Srarfi and González Afonso also discussed the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and training in the area of heritage conservation and restoration, particularly the restoration of wooden ceilings in historic buildings and the restoration of mosaics. During the meeting, discussions focused on future collaboration agreements between Tunisian and Spanish museums, as well as a project to strengthen ties between the cities of Carthage and Cartagena. Regarding audiovisual and publishing matters, the Minister and the Ambassador analyzed the development of co-production projects for documentaries centered on "The Route of the Andalusians" or "The Route of Hannibal," in parallel with the intensification of cross-translation projects between Arabic and Spanish, especially of children's literature. In addition, Amina Srarfi and Isidro González Afonso committed to strengthening cultural exchange through increased participation by both countries in visual arts exhibitions and the exchange of artist residencies. They also highlighted the significant presence of Spanish teams at various summer festivals and discussed the participation of Tunisian teams in diverse events in Spain.
