The Tunisian-born singer Monia Abdelali presents “Monia’s Quartet Arab Flamenco Project,” a performance that explores the links between Arabic music and flamenco. The performance will take place at 2:00 a.m. on June 21st in the Plaza de San Francisco in Córdoba, as part of La Noche Blanca del Flamenco (The White Night of Flamenco), with which Casa Árabe is collaborating once again. Admission is free until the venue reaches capacity.
Accompanied by prominent musicians from the flamenco and contemporary jazz scenes, the artist offers a concert where the sounds of the Mediterranean, Arabic styles, and flamenco expression intertwine.
Born in Gabes, Tunisia, Monia Abdelali grew up surrounded by the traditional songs of her region and later trained in Arabic singing at the Gabes Higher School of Art, where she graduated with honors. Her professional career has led her to participate in audiovisual productions in Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, as well as in leading international festivals. From Seville, the city where she has resided for several years, she has developed various projects that combine tradition and modernity, moving between the classical Arabic repertoire, jazz, and Mediterranean music.
With “Arab Flamenco Project,” launched in 2024, the artist delves into the points of convergence between Arabic music and flamenco, recovering shared influences and generating new spaces for creation. The show proposes a sonic journey that unites both shores of the Mediterranean through compositions, original arrangements, and reinterpretations that highlight a shared cultural heritage.
For this project, Monia Abdelali will be accompanied by flamenco guitarist David Caro, percussionist Javier Rabadán, violinist Leslie Jordan, and bassist and music producer Manuel Sierra “Chechu,” musicians with extensive international experience and a solid background in projects that combine flamenco, jazz, and world music.
Since its inception in 2008, Córdoba’s White Night of Flamenco has become the world’s largest flamenco event, showcasing virtually all of Córdoba’s flamenco artists and attracting a large audience year after year. Most of the great masters have graced its stage, including Manolo Sanlúcar, Miguel Poveda, Fosforito, José Mercé, El Lebrijano, Tomatito, Eva Yerbabuena, Dorantes, and Enrique Morente. Established artists such as Arcángel, Estrella Morente, Kiko Veneno, Rosario Flores, India Martínez, and Niña Pastori, among many others, have also performed, with over a thousand artists participating in each edition.
Casa Árabe’s involvement in this event has been present in 15 of the 17 editions held, dating back to 2010, when the institution promoted a concert by guitarist and composer Tarik Banzi.
