The Goethe-Institut Barcelona (c/Roger de Flor, 224) is hosting another meeting of its German literature club this Wednesday, June 17th. Participants will have the opportunity to discover new works by various authors, read excerpts, and share their opinions.
The event is free and will take place between 7:00 and 8:30 pm. The book club meets one Wednesday a month and is moderated by Ela Meye. The Goethe-Institut Barcelona encourages advance registration, although walk-ins are also welcome. Prior reading of the book is not required.
The book club is aimed at people with a high level of German who want to enjoy discussing literature and connect with others who share their interests. Native German speakers are also welcome. Each session consists of a presentation of a work, including readings of excerpts and a discussion about the book.
In this session, we will discuss Kurt Tucholsky’s novel, Schloss Gripsholm.
Ela Meyer has led the Goethe-Institut library’s book club since the fall of 2025. She grew up in northern Germany and has lived in Barcelona for many years. She is very knowledgeable about the current German literary scene. Her own writing has appeared in various magazines and anthologies. In 2019, she co-founded a literary magazine. Her first novel, Es war schon immer ziemlich kalt (It’s Always Been Cold), and her second novel, Furchen und Dellen (Furchen and Dellen), were published by GOYA.
