Casa de América will host the conference “Women’s Participation in Mediation and Peacebuilding Processes: Recommendations for Ibero-America” this Thursday, June 4. The event is organized by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and the Ibero-American Network of Women Mediators (RIMM), in conjunction with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAUEC).
Women’s participation in mediation and peacebuilding processes remains insufficient, despite international recognition of their fundamental role in conflict prevention and the consolidation of more inclusive and lasting agreements, especially since the adoption of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and United Nations Resolution 1325. In this context, various international and Ibero-American actors have strengthened their commitment to promoting the effective participation of women in these spaces.
In response to this need, the Ibero-American Network of Women Mediators (RIMM) emerged, an initiative aimed at strengthening women’s leadership in conflict prevention and resolution in the region. The Network fosters cooperation, the exchange of experiences, training, and political advocacy among women mediators, diplomats, academics, and leaders, consolidating itself as a strategic space for generating knowledge, validating best practices, and promoting public policies with a gender and intersectional approach.
With the support of the Ibero-American General Secretariat, RIMM prepared the document “Recommendations for the Participation of Women in Mediation and Peacebuilding Processes,” which compiles regional experiences, identifies structural barriers, and proposes strategies to strengthen women’s substantive participation in peace processes. The presentation of this report at the V Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy seeks to highlight the Network’s work, strengthen political dialogue, and promote alliances that contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and representative peace in Ibero-America.
