The Real Casino de Madrid hosted a luncheon-colloquium on April 28, organized by The Diplomat in Spain in collaboration with Cellnex. The event brought together diplomatic representatives from several of Europe’s leading countries alongside senior executives from the company, in a meeting focused on the strategic challenges of connectivity, digital transformation, and European competitiveness.
The gathering featured the participation of the company’s CEO, Marco Patuano, accompanied by members of the executive team as well as senior representatives from corporate affairs and institutional relations. Attendees included diplomatic representatives from Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Portugal, and Switzerland.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen dialogue between the private sector and the European diplomatic community on issues related to the development of strategic infrastructure, European technological autonomy, and the deployment of resilient and sustainable networks.
As Europe’s leading telecommunications infrastructure operator, Cellnex plays a key role in the continent’s digital transformation. The company has invested more than €43 billion over the past decade and operates under a shared infrastructure model that enhances efficiency, expands connectivity, and reduces the sector’s environmental footprint.
Against a backdrop marked by ongoing debate over European technological sovereignty and the need to bolster the European Union’s industrial competitiveness, the company underscored the importance of advancing toward modern, resilient, and sustainable networks capable of supporting the growth of technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence.
The presence of diplomatic representatives from several of Europe’s major economies also highlighted growing institutional interest in the role of telecommunications infrastructure in territorial cohesion, economic security, and Europe’s technological development.
The luncheon was organized with the support of Prestomedia and also brought together representatives from the editorial and institutional communications sectors.
