The Diplomat
The meeting organized yesterday by The Diplomat in Spain, the Association of Foreign Diplomats (ADE) and Meliá Hotels entitled International Law in the face of contemporary conflicts, was led by Irena Šarac, ambassador of Serbia to Spain, and Ricardo Ruiz de la Serna, Professor of Contemporary World History at the University of San Pablo-CEU.
The large number of diplomats attending was a proof that the topic chosen for this meeting arouses, as it could not otherwise, much interest in the Diplomatic Corps.
Serbian Ambassador Irena Šarac denounced in her speech the 1999 NATO bombing of the Republic of Yugoslavia without prior authorization from the UN Security Council, which, for her, constitutes the first rupture of international order in Europe after World War II.
For his part, Professor Ricardo Ruiz de la Serna expressed great concern and uncertainty about the future that awaits us, especially due to the lack of respect for human rights and the economic and political consequences that may have the current conflicts.
As is usual in our talks, the diplomats were very attentive to the explanations and at the end of the presentation various questions were asked to the speakers that served to further deepen the current situation.
The Tertulias de The Diplomat have been held periodically for years and in them are addressed different aspects of politics, economy and society from Spain and abroad. Its objective is to offer foreign diplomats different approaches and viewpoints on aspects of the Spanish and world reality, under the condition of strict confidentiality of what is discussed in the room.
