The Auditorium of the International Institute of Spain in Madrid (calle Miguel Ángel, 8) will premiere next Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m. the musical theatre play Nothing in Between – The Simple, Complicated Life of Hedy Lamarr, inspired by the exciting life of Hedy Lamarr.
Performed and written by the Viennese singer, actress and dancer Janine Hickl, it will be premiered on International Women’s Day, accompanied by Bernd Leichtfried (piano) and Cäcilia Altenberger (cello). In addition to lyrics, the repertoire includes Viennese and French songs and classic swing.
Hedy Lamarr was often described as “the most beautiful woman in cinema”, but she was much more than just a beauty. Born Hedwi Eva Maria Kiesler in Vienna, she began her film career in Berlin in 1930 (at the age of 17). The hit movie Ecstasy marked his debut as a Hollywood star. Under the name of Hedy Lamarr, she starred in films such as Tortilla Flat (1942), White Cargo (1942), Samson and Delilah (1949) by Cecil B. DeMille, and The Female Animal (1957).
In addition to acting, he also devoted himself to mathematics, science and innovation. Together with George Antheil, he held a patent on the “Secret Communication System”, also known as “frequency hopping”, a method that allowed radio transmitters and torpedo receivers to simultaneously jump from one frequency to another. It also introduced technologies that form the basis of modern WLAN, GPS and Bluetooth communication systems.
Janine Hickl is an Austrian actress, singer, announcer and swing dancer living between Vienna and London. The song and swing influence his art, as can also be seen in Nothing in Between.
