‘Los hijos de los boomers’, by the political scientist Estefanía Molina

Author: Estefanía Molina

In Los hijos de los boomers (The children of the boomers), the political analyst, writer and journalist Estefanía Molina gives a voice to a generation: denounces the Spanish passover against the dramas of her youth – housing, wages and precariousness – and explains why so many young people are drawn to authoritarianism and the far right, owing to the demise of the middle class and a political system based on the interests of baby boomers, such as pensions, which no longer serve their children. The author calls for a new social contract and courageous reforms, because there is a risk that this anti-establishment generation, raised in discomfort, will soon raze political conquests and a welfare state that already shows signs of exhaustion.

In the words of the book’s author, “democracy is legitimized not only by its virtues – equality, freedom – but also by its outcomes. That’s where we’re failing our young people.”

Estefanía is a regular opinion writer in El País and collaborator in El Confidencial, and participates as an analyst in programs of La Sexta (such as Al Rojo Vivo or La Roca), the Cadena SER (Hoy por Hoy), Onda Cero (La Brújula) and RTVE. Likewise, she has twice been the rapporteur of the talks organized by The Diplomat and the Association of Foreign Diplomats (ADE).

Previously he published El bando vencido (2021), a chronicle about Spanish politics and the management of the Catalan conflict, and El berrinche político (2021), an essential book to understand the insides of Spanish politics.
