On 11 and 12 February at 7 pm, the Instituto Cervantes of Madrid (calle Alcalá, 49) presents in its auditorium the I Democracy Days: wounds and hope. Face-to-face and online activity. Free entry up to capacity, with reservation of preferred seat on Eventbrite. Live broadcast on the web.
These first days propose a space for public reflection on the current state of democracy, its visible fractures and the possibilities of reconstruction in a context of polarization, disinformation and institutional wear.
Over the course of two days, thinkers, political analysts, trade union representatives and public officials will discuss contemporary democratic challenges: the crisis in representation, the role of the media, social inequality, the discredit of institutions and the conditions necessary to regain public confidence.
On the first day, 11 February, will participate Daniel Innerarity, political philosopher and one of the leading European analysts of contemporary democracy; Unai Sordo, general secretary of CCOO, with a perspective from the world of work and social cohesion; Luis Arroyo, consultant and analyst in political communication and leadership; and Cristina Monge, political scientist specializing in governance, inequality and democratic quality. The day will also feature a special speech by Yolanda Díaz, second vice president of the Government of Spain, focused on the social and political challenges of today’s democracy.
On the second day, 12 February, Hana Jalloul, expert in international relations and geopolitical analysis; Jesús Maraña, journalist and editorial director with a long career in reflection on media, public ethics and citizenship; María Eugenia Rodríguez Palop, Jurist and MEP, specializing in fundamental rights, feminism and constitutional democracy and Esther Palomera, journalist.
These first days seek to contribute to a rigorous, plural and necessary debate on democracy not only as a political system, but as an ethical project and shared horizon.
