On the occasion of UNESCO’s proclamation of 9 February as World Greek Language Day, and on the tenth anniversary of the death of the Greek-Madrilenian artist Dimitri Papagueorguiu, the Embassy of Greece (Doctor Arce Avenue, 24) opens the exhibition Greek poetry in the art of Dimitri, which will take place at the Embassy of Greece on 10 February at 6 pm. The opening will be attended by the ambassador of Greece, Apostolos Baltas; the president of the Pastor Foundation for Classical Studies, Antonio Alvar Ezquerra; the philologist Helenist Alfonso Silván Rodríguez, and the writer and poet Sarantis Antiocos.
The event is held in collaboration with the Pastor Foundation of Classical Studies and with the support of the Center for Byzantine Neogriegos and Cypriot Studies of the University of Granada and the Hispanic-Hellenic Cultural Association.
Dimitri Papagueorguiu was a prolific painter, engraver, ceramist and draughtsman. He is especially recognized as a master of lithography and engraving, techniques that he helped revitalize in his adopted country. In 1958, he founded the Taller Boj in Madrid, a pioneering space dedicated to the teaching and production of engravings where great artists of his time collaborated. Arrived in Madrid in 1954 on a scholarship and settled permanently in the Spanish capital. He taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid for almost two decades. His work is part of prestigious institutions such as the Reina Sofía Museum. In 2019, the Conde Duque Cultural Center dedicated a major retrospective entitled Dimitri. Beyond the Legend.
