Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza surrenders to the work of Rauschenberg

Until 24 May and within the framework of the international commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008), the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, with the support of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, presents a special installation around Express (1963), one of his most representative screen-printed paintings, belonging to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.

The installation offers new perspectives on this key piece in the artist’s career. It explores both the sources of his rich iconography and the experimental impulse that led Rauschenberg to eliminate boundaries between disciplines and collaborate with creators in fields such as dance, performance, visual arts or science. Attention is also given to the importance of this work in its international consecration, receiving in 1964 the Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale.

This proposal is part of a year of activities and exhibitions that review the figure of Rauschenberg from a contemporary approach, highlighting his influence on current artists and his belief in art as a tool for individual and social transformation.
