Within the special cycle of Xtraordinary Visits, the Fundación Casa de México in Spain (calle de Alberto Aguilera, 20) presents next Thursday at 7 pm the guided tour Indigenous textile art, by José Renato Camarillo, which is part of the exhibition Half the world. Women in indigenous Mexico. The divine sphere, directed by José Renato himself, a specialist in textile conservation and restoration.
This session proposes an approach to the textile pieces exposed from their material, technological, artistic and historical wealth. Throughout the course, the textile will be approached as a living object: bearer of thought, identity and collective memory, the result of the ancient knowledge of communities that have developed and perfected their techniques in dialogue with their environment.
The visit will allow to know the technologies that have been used historically in the manufacture of textiles, the way in which these knowledges are transmitted from generation to generation and how they remain valid until today as active cultural practices.
This Xtraordinary Visit is aimed at people interested in deepening the exhibition through a specialized reading that links the history of indigenous textile art, as well as its conservation and continuity.
José Renato Camarillo Duque is a chemical laboratory technician at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional and holds a degree in Restoration from the Escuela Nacional de Conservación, Restauración y Museografía of the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia.
