The year 2026 is of particular importance for cultural relations between Romania and Spain, as it marks the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and 20 years of uninterrupted activity of the Instituto Cultural Rumano in Madrid. In this context, the Biblioteca Nacional of Spain will welcome Romania as a guest country for the Contexts programme. European Plots at the BNE, through a cycle of literary encounters bringing together Romanian and Spanish authors, journalists and cultural agents.

The session will include a reading of poems by Mihai Eminescu, considered the national poet of Romania and an essential figure of European Romanticism, as well as other Romanian authors, in a cultural dialogue that celebrates literature as a space of encounter and shared memory.
