On the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language, next Thursday, December 18 at 6 pm, Casa Árabe hosts in Madrid the presentation of the annual SEDLA awards from the Spanish Society of Arab Language Teachers and the recognition of Professor Salvador Peña as an honorary partner. Free entry until the capacity of the room. The event will be held in Spanish. The event can be followed live on YouTube.
The Spanish Society of Arabic Language Teachers (SEDLA) aims to promote research and teaching of Arabic as a foreign language (EALE). This is why it has instituted the “SEDLA Arabic Language Awards”, whose second edition will reward the best final degree and master’s degree work on Arabic.
During the meeting, Professor Salvador Peña will be recognized as an honorary partner of SEDLA, for a life dedicated to the Arabic language. The ceremony will be attended by Cristina Juarranz, deputy director and coordinator of programming at Casa Árabe; Iñaki Gutierrez de Terán, president of SEDLA; Said Kirhlani, vocal of SEDLA and secretary of the jury of the SEDLA 2025 AWARDS; Walid Saleh, honorary partner of SEDLA; Salvador Peña (honorary partner of SEDLA and professor at UMA) and Adam and Micail Hajjaj, founders of the International School of Arabic and collaborators with the SEDLA AWARDS.
Ana Francisca Marco Estevan (1st prize of TFM) and Berta Fernández Zafón (1st prize of TFG).
The jury was composed of:
– Victoria Aguilar Sebastián, Vice-President of SEDLA (University of Murcia)
– Said Kirhlani, vocal of SEDLA (Universidad Rey Don Juan Carlos)
– Salvador Peña, honorary partner of SEDLA (University of Malaga)
– Roser Puig, member of SEDLA (University of Barcelona)
– Ángeles Vicente, vocal of SEDLA (University of Zaragoza)
A total of 11 entries have been submitted: 2 TD, 2 TFM and 7 TFG. One TD was excluded because it did not meet the requirements of the call for awards. The jury decided to focus on the treatment of works in the Arabic language and the didactics of the language, so it did not question their validity and excellence, for which they already had their courts and were already tried. With these criteria in mind, the TD category has been declared deserted.
