The new ambassador of Tajikistan to Spain, Sharaf Sheralizoda, presented his credentials to the Director General of Protocol, Adrián Martín Couce, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, December 1, according to diplomatic sources who spoke to The Diplomat.
Sharaf Sheralizoda was appointed ambassador of Tajikistan to Spain, based in Geneva, last June by the country’s president, Emomali Rahmon. Sheralizoda, who currently serves as Tajikistan’s ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, will simultaneously represent his country in Spain, replacing Jamshed Hamidov, who was relieved of his post as ambassador to Spain in 2023.
The Embassy of Tajikistan in Switzerland has also been accredited to Spain since 2016. Spain is also represented in Tajikistan through its Embassy in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Born on April 29, 1981, Sharaf Sheralizoda began his career in 2002 at the state-owned Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank). After holding several senior positions in the President’s Executive Office and the finance department of the Roghun Hydropower Plant, he was appointed in 2013 as director of the Public-Private Partnership State Project Implementation Unit of the State Investment and Real Estate Management Committee.
From 2015 to 2017, he served as deputy executive director of the Board of Trustees of the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines. Subsequently, he headed the Secretariat of the Presidential Advisory Council for Improving the Investment Climate (2018-2019) and was first vice chairman of the State Investment and Real Estate Management Committee until 2021. From April 2021 to May 2023, Sheralizoda served as vice minister of foreign affairs.
