This afternoon at 7 pm, Casa Árabe de Madrid is holding the fifth session of the cycle Aula Árabe Universitaria 7, by Hind Meddeb, a Franco-Tunisian journalist and filmmaker, with the screening of the documentary Sudan, remember us. Free entry until capacity is complete. Projection in original version subtitled in Spanish (VOSE). Debate in French with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish.
This screening takes place within the framework of the Women’s Film Festival, with which Casa Árabe collaborates on another occasion.
Sudan has experienced in the last decade one of the most profound and painful political transformations in the Arab region. After the fall of the regime of Omar al-Bashir in 2019, the country came to experience a short period of democratic hope, which was interrupted due to the outbreak of a new armed conflict, resulting in a prolonged humanitarian crisis that lasts until today. In a context of violence, repression and displacement of millions of people, the Sudanese people continue to struggle to keep alive their collective memory and the right to a dignified future.
The documentary Sudan, remember us (Hind Meddeb, 2024, France, 76 min), directed by filmmaker Hind Meddeb, gives voice to this memory through the stories of young Sudanese who refuse to be silenced. The documentary portrays the 2019 revolution not only as a political event, but also as an expression of artistic, cultural and human resistance to oblivion and violence. After the screening of the documentary, a debate with the public and students will be opened.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Degree in Audiovisual Communication of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). Representing the degree, will participate and present to the speaker Alejandra Val Cubero, professor of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication. The session will be moderated by Karim Hauser, coordinator of Cultural Programs and International Relations at Casa Árabe.
The debate after the screening will be broadcast live on our YouTube channel in Spanish and French. The documentary will not be aired.
Hind Meddeb is a Franco-Tunisian journalist and filmmaker known for her documentary work focusing on social movements, youth and struggles for freedom in different Arab countries. Trained in journalism and communication, she has worked for media such as France 24 and directed several documentaries that address the intersection of politics, art and resistance, such as Paris Stalingrad (2019), Tunisia Clash (2015) or Electro Chaabi (2013). Her work is characterized by a committed and empathetic look at generations of young people who defy oppression and claim their voice through culture or collective action.
